It's Almost Here!

I am not sure if I am referring to Thanksgiving or Black Friday.  Here are a few pictures of some things we have been working on this week and last.

Here is what my kindergarteners did for number recognition practice.  You can get a copy of it here!

I was getting tired of the kids focusing on spelling all the time and not getting their ideas on the paper.  So, I put a prompt on the paper and we brainstormed words we might need for our writing.   drew a picture next to each word so that students could easily find it.  To give them some ideas, we read the book Thanks for Thanksgiving.

Last week, or was it two weeks ago already, we made a general chart of words we might need for the whole month.  I really like this idea for each month because I find the kids using it and not asking me how to spell everything.  With it, I have noticed their writing improve.

Happy writing!

This Week

This week was super short so we just talked about what we were thankful for.

Then we made turkeys with our hands and on the fingers we wrote the things we were most thankful for.

Then I got a package of some new toys that I ordered.  We got to play with those this week too.  I love them and so do the kiddos.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I have been a bad blogger lately, but I have some fun pictures to share with you.  We did a Turkey Trot this week.  The kids raised money to help the school.

Students had signs around the track that cheered them on.  I was dressed up like a turkey.  The kids absolutely loved it.

This was a writing prompt we did last week.

And then the craft we made to go with it!  I will post this week in the next post.

This Week in Pictures

Ok so this is not all this week, but I have been bad about keeping up with my posts this week.

We held a shoe drive that we collected in my classroom so I turned it into a math activity.    I dumped all of the shoes into the middle of the room and my younger kids had to match the shoes and then count them. My older kids practiced counting by twos.  The shoes were donated to be recycle into athletic play surfaces.

This is an anchor chart I started with my kiddos.

These are pieces of Smath.  We used them to find  and create equations.

This was our writing project this week.  We used our senses to describe a turkey.

Today I left work and this is what greeted me in the parking lot.

In a Giving Mood

I am in a giving mood on this November 1st evening. I have been creating things to use this month and thought I would share some of them for FREE!

This is my favorite one of this post.  I have a book about the first Thanksgiving, so I thought we could identify the similarities and differences about how the first Thanksgiving was and how it is now.
Please let me know what you think and invite your blogger friends to use these as well.  Happy November!

Thanksgiving ABC Order

I made this ABC order activity I am going to do with the kids next month.  Check it out and let me know what you think.  I want to make some more for other themes.  Any ideas?  My kids love activities that involve cutting and gluing, and they need the fine motor practice, so when I can, I have them cut, color, or glue!!
